Cable Cleat Selection Guide: Single, Trefoil and Double
Cable cleats are devices used to secure cables to cable trays or ladders. Their primary function is to restrain cable movement during normal operation and short-circuit faults. Proper selection of cable cleats is essential for safe electrical system operation.
Single Cable Cleat
Single cleats hold one cable each and are the most commonly used type. Suitable for single-core power cables, control cables and signal cables. Consider cable OD, short circuit current and installation spacing when selecting.
Trefoil Cleat
Trefoil cleats hold three cables in a triangular arrangement, suitable for medium/high voltage three-core power cable systems. This arrangement balances three-phase magnetic fields and reduces eddy current losses.
Double Cleat
Double cleats hold two cables installed in parallel, suitable for DC systems or applications requiring dual-cable installation.
Selection Tips
1. Identify cable type and outer diameter
2. Determine cable arrangement (single, double or trefoil)
3. Know the system short circuit current rating
4. Select products complying with relevant standards (e.g. IEC 61914)
